Job description For our customer, EUMETSAT in Darmstadt, Germany, we are seeking a Support for the Maintenance and Development of the Operational ASCAT Product Processing Facility. The ASCAT is an instrument flown on all METOP satellites, which allows measuring a fundamental geophysical parameter of the Earth surface, the Normalised Radar Cross Section NRCS, also known as sigma0 or normalised backscatter. The NRCS is further used by EUMETSAT partners to estimate winds over the ocean surface, soil moisture over land and sea ice surface characteristics. A followon instrument SCA will be flown also in the EPSSG satellites. The NRCS data is provided in the EPS Core Ground Segment at EUMETSAT by the ASCAT Level 1 PPF and constitutes what is known as the ASCAT Level 1 products. You shall provide software engineering support tasks for maintaining and further developing the ASCAT Level 1 PPF and products. Activities consist of software development, maintenance, integration testing and documentation. The operational code is written in C and its overall design, as well as its scientific algorithms, is based on a science prototype written for the most part in IDL, although some components are further prototyped in C for performance benchmarking needs. The operational code covers all processing steps from Level 0 up to and including Level 1B products. Responsibilities Typical activities to be undertaken are Familiarisation with the code and overall code inspection and analysis Takeover and actualisation of the essential software documentation, including online documentation Software development and implementation of algorithm and functional improvements This is a fulltime position with a planned starting date in December 2016. You will be nominally based at EUMETSATs facilities in Darmstadt, Germany. Qualifications Competencies Applicants shall have an university degree, in the domain of engineering, science, or other suitable qualification. Essential skills are Experience in scientific software implementation and design in a UNIX environment, with a focus on the implementation of numerical algorithms Experience in C and C programming languages as well as common UNIX development tools e.g., make, automakeautoconf, debugging tools for multithreaded applications, profiling tools Experience with source code management processes in particular branch based development workflows and tools git, subversion Experience in software unit, acceptance, system and integration testing Very good command of written English and to communicate effectively in this language Experience in writing software documentation, including test reports The following experience would be an additional asset Basic knowledge of IDL programming Experience with radar signal processing algorithms and their implementation e.g. Fast Fourier Transforms, spectral analysis, power detection and filtering, etc Experience in writing scientific documentation e.g., with LaTeX and MSWord Experience in relational database applications SQL and XML What can Terma offer At Terma, we consider skilled employees, enthusiasm and job satisfaction as the very foundation of our success and as a prerequisite for the development of the bestinclass solutions that Terma provides. We are looking for you as Galileo Control Centre Ground Segment Operational Validation Engineer mf Are you looking for a new and interesting activity in one of Europes most outstanding projects in the area of operation of navigation satellites? The Ground Segment Operational Validation GSOV is an activity spanning across Galileo Control Centres aimed at ensuring readiness of the Galileo infrastructure and related operational products in preparation for live operations. The GSOV Engineer is a member of the Ground Operations Engineering Team. Heshe will report to the Ground Engineering Manager. The work shall be supported in approximately equal share from the GCCI in Fucino, Italy and from the GCCD Oberpfaffenhofen D travelling between the 2 sites as needed. Occasional travel to other European locations is also to be foreseen. The responsibility is to plan and coordinate harmonized Ground Segment Operational Validation activities across Segments and Sites liaising effectively with the Operations Service provider and Segment Provider teams from Industry and Customer representatives.
