It used to dominate the market but ViiV's 2014 sales of 1.5 billion pounds were less than a quarter of the HIV revenue generated by market leader Gilead Sciences ViiV will pay an initial $317 million to buy late-stage HIV drug candidates from Bristol-Myers, including a phase III development treatment fostemsavir, plus $33 million for its preclinical assets. HIV is often treated by mixing at least three medicines together because of the ability of the virus that causes AIDS to mutate and become drug-resistant.

REUTERS: Bristol-Myers Squibb Co said the U.S. Food and Drug Administration declined to approve its immuno-oncology drug, Opdivo, for its expanded use to treat an additional type of advanced skin cancer. Bristol-Myers said it received a so-called complete response letter from the health regulator, which indicated the need for additional data in the BRAF mutated patient population.

" Federal health regulators have expanded approval of a cancer drug from Bristol-Myers Squibb to treat an advanced form of kidney cancer. The Food and Drug Administration says the injectable-drug, Opdivo, is approved for patients with renal cell carcinoma who have previously tried certain other drugs.

Bristol-Myers Squibb Co. said Thursday it has struck an exclusive licensing and collaboration deal to develop and market cancer treatments with Five Prime Therapeutics Inc. The partnership will center on Five Prime's antibody program, which includes FPA008, a product in early development in the drug company's pipeline.
