This post is classified in the A2A4 grade band of the Coordinated Organisations salary scale. LOCATION ESTEC, Noordwijk The Netherlands. DUTIES The postholder will report to the Head of the Thermal Control Section and will work within a group providing technical support to various programmes in the field of thermal control. The main tasks of the post include the following providing thermal support to Agency projects e.g. ESAs Telecommunication, Science, Earth Observation and Navigation Programmes and to early feasibility and definition studies e.g. in the frame of ESAESTECs Concurrent Design Facility for spacecraft and payloads, including o identifying critical development problems and assisting in their resolution o executing analyses as required to support the thermal subsystem definition o participating in thermal testing activities in support of these projects and correlation of analysis and test results o reviewing and evaluating thermal control subsystems of Agency projects participating in the definition and implementation of the ESA Technology Research and Development Programmes and in the European Harmonisation activities, with emphasis on thermal and heat transport technologies for telecommunication platforms participating in the evaluation of industrial proposals and project reviews participating in the ECSS standardisation activities in the thermal engineering domain. QUALIFICATIONS Applicants for this post should have a Masters degree or equivalent qualification in physics or thermalmechanical engineering. A good knowledge of thermal systems and their interfaces to the spacecraft system is essential. This should include knowledge of conceptual design and the related analysis activities, thermal control materials and components, integration of thermal hardware, testing on componentsubassemblysubsystem and on system level. Several years of relevant experience is requested. A good experience with thermal analysis tools such as ESATAN TMS is required. Knowledge and experience with spacerelated thermal and heat transport technologies related to telecommunication platforms e.g. twophase fluid loops would be an asset. Candidates should have good interpersonal and communication skills. They should have the ability to work autonomously, effectively and cooperatively in a diverse and international team environment and to define and implement solutions in line with team and individual objectives and project deadlines. In addition, applicants should have good analytical, organisational and reporting skills, a proactive attitude to solving problems and an interest in innovative technologies. The working languages of the Agency are English and French. A good knowledge of one of these two languages is required together with a working knowledge of the other language. Job Description System Engineer for the Satellite Mechanical, Thermal and Propulsion Subsystems MTP. Technical responsibility for the MTP integrity, thus for system level activities including requirements engineering, mechanical configuration, structural design, thermal design and performance and propulsion design. Control of mechanical, thermal and propulsion engineering budgets Definition, planning and control of the mechanical, structural and thermal analysis to be performed in cooperation with the specific discipline specialists Definition, planning and control of MTP verification, including specification of test requirements.
