Fry's Food and Drug Stores parent recalls spices in possible salmonella threat

The Cincinnati-based retailer , which is the parent company of Fry's Food and Drug Stores in Arizona, is recalling its ground cinnamon, garlic powder, coarse ground black pepper and Bac'n Buds after a sample of its garlic powder from a store in South Carolina tested by the FDA was found to be contaminated with salmonella. While no illnesses have been reported in connection with the products, Kroger is recalling the seasonings produced on the same equipment in the same facility.

Tween brand Limited Too returning to stores, online

As landlords seek to find new tenants for former Target stores, some will subdivide the space since the locations can be more than 10 times larger than a typical clothing outlet. Insolvent Target Canada's sale of its store leases and other properties fetched far less than the amount the retailer spent initially acquiring its leases - a reflection of the softening retail real estate market in the wake of the U.S. discounter's exit from Canada.

Loblaw to close 52 unprofitable stores including pharmacies, grocery stores

Loblaw Companies Ltd. says it plans to shut down 52 unprofitable stores in its chain of various retail outlets in a move that will cut sales but boost its operating profit. The company says the closures will take place over the next 12 months and reduce its sales on an annual basis by about $300 million.
