Microsoft takes on Google X with its own secretive Special Projects group
2014-04-29 14:45:25| Extremetech
Microsoft, clearly a bit jealous of the gratuitous geeky kudos being mopped up by Google X, has set up its own secretive Special Projects group. The group is being headed up by Norman Whitaker, previously a deputy director at DARPA. Not much is known about the Special Projects group, but a job listing says it will be tasked with "working on disruptive technologies that could benefit the company and society." So far, Microsoft has declined to officially comment on this new group -- presumably it's waiting for a big New York Times expose, just like Google X.

Google+ tremors rattle Apps suite after Gundotra's departure
2014-04-29 13:28:08| InfoWorld: Top News
The surprising departure of Google+ chief Vic Gundotra has ignited uncertainty and speculation about the product's future, including its place in the workplace Apps suite. Even before Gundotra's resignation last week, the company's plans for Google+ in the enterprise were unclear. While Google makes it possible for Apps admins to turn on Google+ for their domain users, the social networking site isn't a core, supported component of that email and collaboration suite.
