Today, the Environmental Protection Agency and Justice Department's Environment and Natural Resources Division announced a settlement with Cal-Maine Foods, Inc., one of the nation's largest egg producers, that resolves Clean Water Act violations at the company's poultry egg production facility in the town of Edwards, Miss. Under the settlement, Cal-Maine will bring the facility into compliance with its state-issued water discharge permit, significantly reduce nutrient pollution discharges, and improve environmental data collection and reporting practices.

Based in Seymour, Indiana, Rose Acre Farms, Inc. has 17 processing operations in six states and has been family-owned and operated since 1964. This new joint venture, known as Red River Valley Egg Farm, LLC, will build and operate a state of the art shell egg production complex near Bogata, Red River County, Texas.

The complex, which could accommodate between 1.8 million and 2.9 million laying hens, is expected to begin initial operations by August.
