Environmentalists blast Dominion's response to energy plan
2016-01-28 13:38:59| Paper - Topix.net
In an open letter to Gov. Terry McAuliffe, a coalition of environmental activists and other community leaders said Tuesday that Dominion Virginia Power's response to the federal Clean Power Plan is "fundamentally contrary" to President Obama's goals of reducing carbon emissions and promoting renewable energy. The letter is signed by about 50 individuals who represent organizations including the Virginia Chapter Sierra Club, the Chesapeake Climate Action Network, and the Richmond and Northern Neck chapters of the Citizens Climate Lobby.

Canada: Environmentalists don't see Regina pushing on climate change front
2016-01-02 13:05:00| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed
Regina Leader-Post: On the heels of the Paris Climate Change Conference, governments at all levels are looking inward, parsing what role they have to play. The City of Regina is no exception: The municipality has been in this game a while and considers itself a leader in this area. But local environmental experts see a lag in municipal efforts at a time when the issue -- and the globe -- are heating up. A strong start Regina`s climate change commitment dates back two decades, when it became the third Canadian...

In debate over crude oil exports, jobs advocates clash with environmentalists
2015-12-05 23:39:00| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed
LA Times: The story of the Arab oil embargo of 1973, with its high gasoline prices and long car lines at service stations, is a distant memory at best, a tale told by parents and aging relatives. Almost two-thirds of all Americans alive today were toddlers then or had not been born. The legacy of that all-but-forgotten episode in the nations history has triggered a new, little-noticed partisan political battle in Washington a fight to lift the 40-year-old restriction on U.S. crude oil exports imposed as...
Environmentalists urge feds to enforce rules on power plant emissions cuts
2015-11-13 17:28:00| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed
Trib Live: Environmental advocates from as far away as Detroit gathered Thursday in Pittsburgh to urge federal regulators to enforce stringent rules on states that fail to write their own plans to meet requirements for reducing carbon emissions from power plants. Climate change driven by pollution from fossil fuel-burning plants will harm the planet if the Environmental Protection Agency does not curb emissions soon, dozens of people said during testimony inside the William S. Moorhead Federal Building and...
People's victory: Environmentalists cheer Keystone
2015-11-07 01:25:50| Oil & Gas - Topix.net
U.S. President Barack Obama's decision to deny approval to the Keystone XL pipeline has permanently changed the discussion on new energy projects, say environmentalists and analysts. "It's premature to talk about other pipelines yet, but if Alberta and Canada don't introduce proper greenhouse gas regulations for the industry, then it's going to be challenging to make the argument that those projects are in the public interest," says Simon Dyer of the Pembina Institute, a clean-energy think-tank.
