Ziggo rejects takeover offer from Liberty Global

(Telecompaper) Dutch cable operator Ziggo has rejected a takeover offer from its largest shareholder Liberty Global, which also owns the other main cable network in the Netherlands, UPC. Ziggo said in a statement that it received a preliminary proposal from Liberty Global, but this was deemed "inadequate". The statement follows a report in Germany's Manager Magazin that said Liberty Global was looking to merge Ziggo and UPC along with its Belgian operator Telenet. Liberty Global acquired a 28.5 percent stake in Ziggo earlier this year. Ziggo said there was no certainty that Liberty would come back with a revised proposal.

Vodafone completes Kabel Deutschland takeover offer

(Telecompaper) Vodafone announced that the voluntary public takeover offer for German cable network operator Kabel Deutschland has been completed. Vodafone now owns 76.57 percent of Kabel Deutschland's share capital. Vodafone will now enter into a domination and profit and loss transfer agreement with Kabel Deutschland in line with German Stock Corporation Law. This allows Vodafone to consolidate the company's results, while also agreeing rights and payments for minority shareholders. Vodafone announced in June the takeover bid, valuing the German cable operator at EUR 7.7 billion plus EUR 3 billion in debt.

Telefonica denies takeover offer from AT&T

(Telecompaper) Telefonica said it had not received any indication of interest from AT&T. In a statement, the Spanish operator said that it has "not received any approach, nor any indication of interest, neither verbal nor in written form, from any party". The statement follows a Spanish newspaper report that the Spanish government had rejected a EUR 70 billion takeover offer from the US operator.
