Fukushima Radiation (Still) Poses No California Risk
2014-01-15 15:04:00| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed
New York Times: Im catching up with an incredibly helpful, and sadly necessary, article by Tony Barboza in the Los Angeles Times explaining why theres no scientific basis for the persistent stream of fear mongering about a radiation threat in American seafood and along California coasts from the 2011 Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant calamity. Heres the introduction: Radiation detected off the U.S. West Coast from the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant in Japan has declined since the 2011 tsunami disaster and...

Youll be amazed at how these government researchers turned your smartphones camera into a radiation dose meter.
2014-01-13 15:52:20| Extremetech
Government researchers have written an Android app that lets your phone's camera act as a gamma radiation detector. We're not talking about the same quality of detection as a commercial detector or dosimeter, but if you spend a lot of time in planes, or you live in an area with high levels of natural background radiation (granite, limestone, high altitude), you might soon use your smartphone as a cheap, fairly accurate gamma radiation detector. Such a smartphone app could be a huge boon for emergency services who are first on the scene at a radiation leak and aren't equipped with the correct radiation gear, too.

2014-01-11 17:42:00| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed
EcoWatch: The roll call of U.S. sailors who say their health was devastated when they were irradiated while delivering humanitarian help near the stricken Fukushima nuke is continuing to soar. So many have come forward that the progress of their federal class action lawsuit has been delayed. Bay area lawyer Charles Bonner says a re-filing will wait until early February to accommodate a constant influx of sailors from the aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan and other American ships. U.S. sailors irradiated...
