Shock at global warming speed: 'widespread future extinctions' predicted

2016-03-27 16:58:00| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed

Advertiser and Times: Climate change is happening TEN TIMES quicker than at any point since the age of the dinosaurs, warns new research. And the unprecedented rate of change is likely to trigger widespread future extinctions. Climate impact predicted to cause 500,000 extra deaths in 2050

2016-03-03 14:07:47| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed

Reuters: Climate change could cause significant changes to global diets, leading to more than half a million extra deaths in 2050 from illnesses such as stroke, cancer and heart disease, experts said on Wednesday. As extreme weather such as floods and heat waves wreaks havoc with harvests and crop yields, estimated increases in food availability could be cut by a third by 2050, according to the experts' study published in The Lancet medical journal. This would lead to a reduction of 99 calories available...

Climate change driving species to Earth's poles faster than predicted, scientists say

2016-02-09 09:00:00| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed

Australian Broadcasting Corporation: Warming temperatures are pushing land and sea creatures closer to the north and south poles and to cooler altitudes at rates faster than first predicted, scientists say. Scientists from 40 countries are gathering in Hobart for a four-day conference about how climate change is forcing species to move, including humans. Professor Camille Parmesan from Plymouth University in the UK said around the world animals and plants were moving towards the Earth's poles, and it is happening faster than scientists...
