Telecom Italia rebrands Cubovision as TIMVision

2014-05-12 15:32:00| Telecompaper Headlines

(Telecompaper) Telecom Italia has rebranded its Cubovision IPTV service, changing its name to TIMVision, enriching the content and lowering subscription costs. The new service is already available on smartphones and tablets and will shortly be launched on smart TVs and PCs. The content, which already offers over 5,000 titles, has been enriched with the addition of feature films, sporting events and serials, including the new series of Mad Men from 13 May. TIMVision will also become part of TIM's new 4G portfolio, said the operator. In addition, thanks to Telecom Italia's distribution agreement with Sky Italia, TIMVision will include a full range of Sky-branded sporting content, including the forthcoming Fifa World Cup. Telecom Italia confirmed that the rebranding exercise applied to TIMVision will shortly be extended to all its other digital platforms devoted to music, books and games.

Telecom Italia board of directors confirms Patuano as CEO

2014-04-18 15:29:00| Telecompaper Headlines

(Telecompaper) The first meeting of the new 13-strong Telecom Italia board of directors confirmed the appointment of Marco Patuano as the company's Chief Executive Officer, assigning him responsibility for the overall management of the group and for implementing and developing the strategic, industrial and financial plans in Italy and South America. Patuano, who has been CEO since Franco Bernabe's resignation as chairman in October, was also handed responsibility for relations with the Italian regulators Agcom and Agcm and the corresponding authorities abroad, in coordination with the new chairman, Giuseppe Recchi. The board also defined Recchi's powers, granting him a general guidance role in the development and implementation of Telecom Italia's strategic, industrial and financial plans, supervision of the company's organisational structures, as well as a representational role in the company's external relations with authorities, institutions and investors.

Telecom Italia appoints Recchi as chairman in board shake-up

2014-04-17 09:50:00| Telecompaper Headlines

(Telecompaper) Telecom Italia shareholders have appointed Giuseppe Recchi as chairman after an 11-hour meeting that for the first time sees independent directors placed in charge of the company. Although Recchi was the candidate of Telco SpA, the Telefonica-led group that holds a controlling 22.4 percent stake in Telecom Italia, he has no ties with it and can therefore be classified as an independent, along with most of the 13 directors appointed yesterday for a three-year term. Telco got backing for three directors in the first round of voting and another seven in the second round, while mutual funds association Assogestioni got all three of its proposed candidates approved after winning most votes in first round. However, none of the candidates of the Findim Group of 5 percent shareholder Marco Fossati managed to obtain a board seat, partly due to the complex voting system he has criticised. The lack of proper representation for minority investors prompted a Fossati-led shareholder revolt last year with the aim of ousting the board, resulting in Telco's proposal of a new board of independent figures led by Recchi, who drew around 97 percent of votes and whose appointment was yesterday cautiously welcomed by Fossati. "We have to start with a new era ... but if a conflict of interest becomes evident we will seek again to revoke the board," he said.
