Through the implementation of hundreds of energy efficiency projects and major operational improvements in water reuse and recovery at large processing plants, Archer Daniels Midland Company has been able to sharply reduce its use of water and energy per unit of production-known as water and energy intensity-in recent years. In its latest Corporate Responsibility report, the company reports that it has reduced water intensity 19.1 percent since 2008, and that energy intensity has declined 17.3 percent since 2010.
