Central Texas Research Chimps Face Uncertain Future
2015-12-15 18:49:40| Biotech - Topix.net
Tucked into the semi-wilderness a few miles north of this Central Texas town, within spitting distance of a federal prison, Nahja, a 25-year old chimpanzee at the Keeling Center for Comparative Medicine and Research, wraps a handful of woolly nesting material around her head into something that resembles a shawl. When a handler calls her name, Nahja stretches out her massive hands and catches an orange - this morning's treat - tossed from the observation balcony overlooking the 75-foot wide corral where she and the rest of her social group live.

Guardian: Maatalii Okalik is tired of seeing polar bears as the face of climate change. Make it an Inuit face. Were the ones that are really affected by it, she told the Guardian in a phone interview from Paris. At the Paris climate conference, the bear is a trope on banners and posters. This summer, I saw the effects of climate change first-hand in our northernmost...

2015-12-10 15:00:00| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed
New York Times: Less than two days before their deadline to conclude a sweeping new climate accord, negotiators from nearly 200 countries have yet to resolve major issues, such as how and when pledged cuts to carbon emissions would be verified. Lead negotiators said they were confident that a deal could still be reached and perhaps in time to meet the Friday deadline. But some outside observers who have been monitoring the talks said that the compromises necessary to bring it across the finish line could weaken...
