Worthington Industries Inc. is cutting 555 employees from its work force, including more than 100 in Ohio, and closing a facility in South Carolina. The Columbus steel processor said Tuesday that 245 employees in its oil and gas division will be part of the reduction, and 310 employees in its Florence, South Carolina, engineered cabs facility will lose their jobs as part of that plant's closure.

"Please note that the vast majority of our Bay Area employees are outside the scope of this activity and that our intention is for San Ramon to remain home to our corporate headquarters," wrote Jeff Swindel, a public affairs manager, in a letter last month to Stephen Baiter, executive director of the Contra Costa County Workforce Development Board.
