(Telecompaper) The US Department of Justice has filed its long-awaited competition case against Google, with the backing of public prosecutors from 11 states. The lawsuit alleges the internet giant unlawfully maintained a monopoly in the search and search advertising markets by entering deals with device manufacturers to make Google the default or exclusive search engine installed on mobile phones and computers.

Google taking Stadia takes pre-orders ahead of November launch

(Telecompaper) Google has started taking pre-orders for its Stadia cloud gaming service, which will officially launch in 14 different territories in November with an initial 30 or so games from at least 21 publishers including Ubisoft, Electronic Arts, Take-Two Interactive, Sega, Square Enix and Bethesda. The company's Stadia Founder's Edition package for early adopters can be ordered now for EUR 129.99 and will allow consumers to play video games such as Baldur's Gate III and Destiny 2 from the launch day on nearly any device without any downloads.

France takes Apple and Google to court over unfair contracts with app developers

(Telecompaper) Apple and Google face legal action at the Paris commercial court that could result in a fine of EUR 2 million for unfair commercial practices. The case was brought on behalf of the French finance minister, Bruno Le Maire, by the French Directorate for fair trading, consumer affairs and fraud control (DGCCRF). It centres on the contractual terms imposed by the two companies on content and app developers selling software on Google Play and Apple's App Store.

Getty Images Takes Google Grievances to EU

Getty Images on Wednesday filed a competition law complaint against Google with the European Commission. The company last year filed an "interested third party" submission in support of the EC's investigation into Google's anticompetitive business practices. Getty's complaint, in essence, is that Google Images facilitates piracy of high-res copyrighted content.
