Qualcomm unveils first mmWave, sub-6 GHz RF modules for smartphones

(Telecompaper) Qualcomm has unveiled what it says is the world's first fully-integrated 5G NR millimeter wave (mmWave) and sub-6 GHz RF modules for smartphones and other mobile devices. The Qualcomm QTM052 mmWave antenna module family and the Qualcomm QPM56xx sub-6 GHz RF module family work with the Qualcomm Snapdragon X50 5G modem to provide modem-to-antenna capabilities across several spectrum bands in a very compact footprint suited for integration in mobile devices. Up to now, mmWave was considered impractical for mobile devices and networks.

Specific tasks to be performed Contribute to the design, development and performance evaluation of RF technologies applicable to space and ground segments, with particular emphasis on active RF equipment and components HPAs, LNAs, TR modules, etc. in MMIC and hybrid forms Provide expert technical support to projects and programmes Contribute to the generation of innovative ideas in the field of RF equipment and technologies and to the definition of ESA RD programmes Define technical requirements and statements of work for the tasks to be performed by industry from early conceptual studies to full hardware development Contribute to the developmentusage of section related laboratory facilities and analysissimulation tools Maintain stateoftheart expertise by interacting with research Institutes, monitoring the technological trends and applying them in the daytoday work To successfully perform the above mentioned tasks, the following background experience is required Masters degree in Microwave or RF Electronics Engineering Good background on RF equipment and technologies for space application A minimum of 4 years of working experience on Active RF equipment, components and technologies Extensive and proven experience in the domain of microwave components, equipment andor technologies. Telecom Infra Project launches mmWave Networks Project Group

(Telecompaper) The introduction of mmWave Networks Project Group will be supported by the launch of the first European TIP Community Lab in Bonn, Germany with mmWave as the initial focus area. Another TIP Ecosystem Acceleration Center (TEAC) will be launched in Berlin, Germany, focused on network infrastructure innovation. The TIP Community Labs will provide space and equipment for TIP members doing project group work. The idea is to harness the innovation also of startups, by giving them a workspace.

Qualcomm shows 5G NR prototype for mmWave spectrum

(Telecompaper) Qualcomm announced it has a 5G New Radio prototype for mmWave spectrum ready to start tests in the second half of this year. Based on the Release-15 specifications being developed by 3GPP, the prototype system uses spectrum bands above 24 GHz, an area many operators are exploring for the first 5G services.

KDDI, Samsung complete 5G mmWave tests at 190km per hour

(Telecompaper) KDDI and Samsung Electronics announced they have completed a set of 5G tests which demonstrate the viability and performance of 5G millimeter wave mobility services at speeds over 190km per hour. The demo took place at 'Everland SpeedWay' in Korea, and involved a battery of individual tests to examine the performance of Samsung's 5G mmWave technology.
