Shaw Communications Inc. reported a sharp jump in fourth-quarter profit on Thursday, helped by the sale of wireless airwaves and price increases, but shed large numbers of retail television customers and barely added consumer Internet subscribers. The Calgary-based cable company said net income rose to $276-million, or 57 cents per share, from $192-million, or 40 cents per share, a year earlier.

FedEx Corp. plans to increase both its fuel surcharges and its overall shipping rates in the coming months. Earlier this month, the Memphis-based parcel giant announced that shipping rates would increase by an average of 4.9 percent early next year.

Amgen Inc. shares jumped in extended trading after the maker of osteoporosis drug Prolia easily beat Wall Street's second-quarter profit expectations and hiked its 2015 financial forecast. Amgen, based in Thousand Oaks, California, said Thursday it sees strong momentum for the second half of the year, with three new drugs launching, new approvals for a couple expected soon and experimental drugs for migraines, heart failure and preventing bone fractures in or near the final rounds of patient testing.
