Maple Leaf Foods Inc. says it expects its business to recover in 2015 following a year of changes that resulted in a $213.8-million net loss from continuing operations for the full year, including onetime items. For the fourth quarter, the food processor had a $28.2 million net loss, including $5.2 million from discontinued operations.

Canada-based Maple Leaf Foods provided an update on the completion of its network transition, a strategy that began with the company's primary pork processing operations, and since 2010, has focused on its prepared meats plants and distribution network. In the past four years, Maple Leaf Foods has closed five plants , expanded three others , consolidated 17 distribution centers into two and built a 400,000-square-foot, state-of the-art processing facility.

Toronto-based food giant Maple Leaf Foods is in a multi-year reorganization and its plant on Panet Road in Winnipeg is one of the locations set to be closed. says one of the three plants previously identified for closure will be shut permanently on Dec. 31 and the other two will close by the end of March.
