According to Parks Associates, usage of authenticated video viewing, or TV Everywhere, reached 40% of U.S. pay-TV consumers in 2015, up from 22% in 2013. The percentage of respondents watching authenticated video at least once a month is 23%s.

Murdoch May Get Boost in Pay-TV Battle With Netflix in Australia

A plan by billionaire Rupert Murdoch's News Corp. to gain control of Australia's largest pay-television provider would give the company a freer hand to accelerate price cuts and buy new shows to compete with Netflix Inc. News Corp. and Telstra Corp., the joint owners of pay-television service Foxtel, are considering a deal that would reduce Telstra's stake in the venture and take News Corp.'s to 51 percent, according to people with knowledge of the matter. As part of the proposed deal, News Corp. would inject its Fox Sports Australia business, a local unit for sports content, into Foxtel and the business may then be publicly listed, said the people, asking not to be identified as the talks are private.

Pay-TV industry blasts set-top box proposals

The pay-TV industry lobbied on Tuesday against a proposal to open cable set-top box standards, blasting it as a giveaway to West Coast technology companies that could take years to implement and burden consumers with extra costs. The Federal Communications Commission is expected to take its first vote on new set-top rules in Washington on Thursday.

U.S. pay-TV providers lose 190,000 subscribers in 3Q 2015

Leichtman Research Group (LRG) has found that the thirteen largest pay-TV providers in the US -- representing about 95% of the market -- lost about 190,000 net video subscribers in 3Q 2015, compared to a loss of about 155,000 subscribers in 3Q 2014.
