Engadget: Earth just took a tentative step toward a new, comprehensive plan for improving the environment. Representatives from 195 countries have approved a draft UN climate change agreement that will ask all participants to lower their carbon dioxide emissions. There are still many, many details left to resolve ahead of a final deal (ideally signed next week), but the ultimate goal is to have countries reduce their greenhouse gas levels by 2050, and to eliminate emissions completely between 2060 and 2080....

Paris climate change talks yield first draft amid air of optimism
2015-12-05 19:29:00| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed
Guardian: Negotiators paving the way for a global climate change agreement in Paris have cleared a major hurdle, producing a draft accord in record time and raising hopes that a full week of minister-led talks can now clinch a deal despite many sticking points. Those were fateful words when Al Gore spoke them in An Inconvenient Truth, his 2005 film about global warming. The U.S. was at war in Iraq and Afghanistan. The fear of another 9/11 was still very real. But only a few politicians were beginning to view climate change as a threat to global security equal or greater than terrorism. Its 2015, and the landscape...
