Republicans hit Landrieu over climate change talk-a-thon

CNN: Nearly 30 senators staged an overnight debate on the Senate floor Monday night through Tuesday morning, trying to bring attention to what they say is a dire need to combat climate change with legislative action. But Sen. Mary Landrieu, the new chairman of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, was noticeably absent from the demonstration. The vulnerable Democrat faces re-election this fall in Louisiana, a state with large swaths of conservative voters. The National Republican Senatorial...

Markey compares climate change to steroids in baseball
2014-03-11 07:13:00| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed
Hill: Sen. Ed Markey (D-Mass.) used a chart showing that the number of home runs increased when players used steroid, saying its the same case with temperatures rising when humans emit greenhouse gases. Something very funny happened in baseball because from 1920 all the way through the entire modern baseball history, the average number of players that hit more than 41 home runs in a season was three players, Markey said Monday night. All of the sudden 17 players could hit more than 41 home runs....

2014-03-10 08:01:00| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed
Guardian: Bangladesh needs $5bn (3bn) over the next five years to adapt to current climate changes, and the cost is rising each year, according to a lead negotiator for developing countries in the UN climate talks, which resume in Bonn on Monday. It, and other developing countries, may have been promised $30bn as "fast-start finance" before $100bn a year is theoretically mobilised for developing countries in 2020, but the global recession and reluctance by rich countries to match their pledges with money...

Bummer. Climate change will shrink gnarly Aussie waves
2014-03-09 19:04:00| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed
New Scientist: Bodacious tubes on Australia's east coast are being wiped out by global warming. That's the finding from research predicting that, at current rates, climate change will crush those big waves. By the end of the century they will be two-thirds of the size they are today The effect of climate change on waves around the globe has been poorly understood because climate models don't always accurately predict surface winds, which drive waves. Andrew Dowdy and his colleagues from the Australian Bureau...
