German national airline Lufthansa has signed a seven-year 800m outsourcing deal with IBM for the technology giant to deliver IT infrastructure services to the company. Now that the deal has been signed, Simone Menne, CFO at Deutsche Lufthansa AG and chairperson of the supervisory board of Lufthansa Systems AG, said that the agreement would "strengthen the competitiveness of Lufthansa Group as a whole".

CAE bets more airlines will follow with outsourcing pilot training

CAE anticipates that its recent joint venture with Japan Airlines pilots will help to convince other carriers to outsource their own simulator training. The Montreal-based company, which employs 250 people in Ottawa, formed a joint venture with the Asian carrier in October to provide flight crew training for the airline and other customers across northeast Asia starting in April using 12 simulators.

Democrats stepped up their criticism of GOP gubernatorial nominee Charlie Baker on Wednesday over claims that as head of Harvard Pilgrim Health Care, he allowed 200 jobs to be outsourced to India, while Republicans denounced the attack as misleading. The spat over outsourcing, a potential hot-button issue with both candidates stressing their job-creating ability, began a day earlier when Democrat Martha Coakley's campaign released a photograph of a tuxedo-clad Baker accepting an ''Outsourcing Excellence Award'' in 2008.
