Microsoft Widens Skype World

Skype on Friday announced Skype for Web, a new version of its VoIP service that can be used in a browser rather than through the dedicated application. To use Skype for Web, users simply sign in on Skype.com to start instant messaging directly from their browser. Voice or video calls will require a small plug-in. The service works with Internet Explorer, Chrome on Windows, Firefox and Safari.

Exxon topped by Microsoft as second biggest company on oil drop

Exxon Mobil Corp. ceded its title as the world's second-largest company to Microsoft Corp. after the five-month oil rout cut almost $50 billion from its market value. Exxon, based in Irving, Texas, slipped 1.1 percent to $94.25 as of 1:33 p.m. in New York, dropping for the third time in four days and reducing its overall value to $399.0 billion.

Microsoft acquires enterprise security company Aorato

(Telecompaper) Microsoft has announced it has acquired enterprise security company Aorato. The Wall Street Journal reported that the company was bought for approximately USD 200 million, according to two people familiar with the matter. As a result of Microsoft's acquisition of the Israeli company, Microsoft will be able to offer customers a higher level of protection against threats and enhanced visibility into their identity infrastructure.

Xbox One finally ships 10 million units, three months after the PS4: Can Microsoft stage a comeback?

After a very long radio silence indeed, Microsoft has finally announced that it will "shortly" have shipped 10 million Xbox One consoles to retailers. Unsurprisingly, Microsoft says that sales of the Xbox One 'skyrocketed' after the recent price cut of $50, and that the Xbox has led the PS4 in US console sales over the last two weeks. There's still a huge gap between the two consoles (probably ~5 million units), but maybe the Xbox One is finally starting to close the gap.
