(Telecompaper) Samsung Electronics has unveiled its Galaxy XCover Pro, a rugged "yet sylish" smartphone designed for workers across a variety of industries, that integrates the newly announced walkie talkie capability in Microsoft Teams and has a replaceable battery. The phone will be available as an Enterprise Edition in select markets, with two years of market availability and four years of security updates. In the US, it will launch with Verizon in the first half of this year, for USD 499.99.

Apple, Alphabet, Dell, Microsoft and Tesla sued over Congo cobalt mining exploitation

(Telecompaper) US human rights group IRAdvocates has filed a federal class action lawsuit against Alphabet, Apple, Dell, Microsoft and Tesla on grounds of "knowingly benefiting from and aiding and abetting the cruel and brutal use of young children in Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) to mine cobalt," a key component of rechargeable lithium-ion batteries. The lawsuit was filed in the US District Court in Washington District of Columbia on behalf of 14 unnamed plaintiffs who are either guardians of children killed or maimed in tunnel or wall collapses while mining cobalt in the DRC or children maimed in the accidents.

(Telecompaper) Google has joined with 70 other companies and union leaders to call on the US to stay in the Paris Agreement. The letter was signed by the CEOs of Google, Mastercard, Salesforce, Aon, Tata Sons, Disney, Bank of America, Tesla, Microsoft, Adobe, IBM, Goldman Sachs, Verizon and Corning, among many others, and marks the start of the 25th annual United Nations Climate Change Conference. The companies added that they will look to become innovators in the renewable energy market, and to build responsible supply chains and products that use AI to drive sustainability.
