A newly formed short-haul trucking company serving the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach will give all of its drivers full employment status, rather than treat them as independent contractors, company and union officials said today.

And of that 3%, the vast majority gets to its destination without incident: The Association of American Railroads reports that the train accident rate is down 79% from 1980 and 42% from 2000, and that "99.995% of tanks carrying crude arrive safely."
