Deutsche Telekom to set up new USD 500 mln investment fund
2014-11-11 15:36:00| Telecompaper Headlines
(Telecompaper) Deutsche Telekom wants to set up an investment fund worth EUR 500 million for a five-year period, on top of its existing T-Venture investments. Deutsche Telekom's supervisory board has approved the setup of a specialist team of investment managers for the new Deutsche Telekom Capital Partners (DTCP), set to launch early next year. The plan doubles the group's commitment to investments in ventures and innovation. DTCP will be one of the largest investment funds in Europe, and will also advise Deutsche Telekom on existing investments in STRATO, Interactive Media, Scout, Deutsche Telekom Innovation Pool (TIP) and T-Venture. T-Venture, the venture capital fund established in 1998, will be closed to new investments but the team will remain on board and continue to manage the existing portfolio of around 100 companies. T-Venture will also retain responsibility for follow-up investments within this portfolio. New investments will be executed through DTCP. DTCP will support Deutsche Telekom's strategy as an external innovation engine through investments in venture capital, with a special focus on Germany's start-up scene. On top of that, DTCP will also expand its activities to include private equity investments in existing undertakings to foster operational cooperation between over-the-top companies and Deutsche Telekom.

Deutsche Telekom posts small rise in Q3 revenue thanks to US
2014-11-06 08:43:00| Telecompaper Headlines
(Telecompaper) Deutsche Telekom reported third-quarter revenues up 0.8 percent year-on-year to EUR 15.6 billion, helped by a strong performance at T-Mobile US. Revenue in the US rose 8.7 percent, while Germany was down 1.5 percent and the rest of Europe fell 3.6 percent. The group's adjusted EBITDA fell 1.8 percent to EUR 4.6 billion due to higher spending for customer growth in Germany and the US. Adjusted net profit was down 2.8 percent to EUR 800 million and fell 13.9 percent on a reported basis due to proceeds from the sale of the Bulgarian subsidiary in the year-earlier period. CEO Tim Hoettges said the operator still faced some regional challenges but the group had a very successful quarter, with for the first time over 60 percent of revenue generated outside Germany. The group increased capital expenditure 10.3 percent to EUR 2.5 billion excluding licences and spectrum. Free cash flow subsequently fell 21.2 percent to EUR 1.1 billion. This is still in line with Deutsche Telekom's guidance for EUR 4.2 billion in cash flow over the full year, after EUR 3.2 billion in the first nine months. The company also maintained its EBITDA guidance at EUR 17.6 billion.

EC fines Deutsche Telekom EUR 69.8 million
2014-10-16 09:03:00| Telecompaper Headlines
(Telecompaper) The European Commission has imposed a fine of EUR 38.838 million on Slovak Telekom and its parent Deutsche Telekom for having pursued during more than five years an abusive strategy to shut out competitors from the Slovak market for broadband services. The conclusion came after an in-depth investigation which started in 2009 for Slovak Telekom and in December 2010 for Deutsche Telekom. In particular, the EC concluded that Slovak Telekom refused to supply unbundled access to its local loops to competitors, and imposed a margin squeeze on alternative operators. Deutsche Telekom as parent company with decisive influence is also responsible for the conduct of its subsidiary; it is therefore jointly and severally liable for Slovak Telekom's fine. Deutsche Telekom also received an additional fine of EUR 31.07 million to ensure sufficient deterrence as well as to sanction its repeated abusive behaviour (recidivism) as it had already been fined in 2003 for a margin squeeze in broadband markets in Germany.
