Around 1,400 homes and businesses are believed to have been affected by the cut, which was reported at just after 8am this morning. A spokesperson for Scottish and Southern Energy said: "Engineers are currently investigating the fault and we are hoping to have all the power restored by 11am.

More than 3,000 NV Energy customers lost power about 10:45 this morning, most of them along U.S. Highway 95. The NV Energy website reported a confirmed power outage occurred at 10:49 a.m. Most of the outages are in ZIP Code 89015 in the southeast valley. At 11:40 a.m. the website showed that just over 500 customers had been restored but that 2,451 customers remained without power.

Scottish and Southern Energy spokesman Glenn Barber said the fault, in the power firm's high voltage network, was first discovered at about 8.20pm. Initially 1,200 homes and businesses were hit but the company had managed to reconnect about 300 customers, he added.
