Oracle's second-quarter revenue rose 2 percent to $9.3 billion while net income dropped 1 percent to $2.6 billion, with new software license and cloud subscription revenue flat and hardware product revenue continuing a long slide. New software license and cloud subscription revenue remained at $2.4 billion for the quarter ended Nov. 30, Oracle said in its announcement Wednesday. But revenue from the annual maintenance payments its on-premises software customers make to Oracle grew 6 percent to $4.5 billion.

Server revenue worldwide was down 7.7 percent year-over-year in the first quarter, as weak economic conditions and server consolidation by customers slowed sales, according to research firm IDC. Revenue in the market dropped to $10.9 billion in the quarter, the fifth-time in the last six quarters the server industry saw year-over-year decline. Server shipments also fell in the period by 3.9 percent year-over-year.

Global CRM (customer relationship management) revenue grew 12.5 percent last year to $18 billion, a rate three times that of all enterprise software segments on average, as companies look to acquire more business and serve existing customers better, according to a new Gartner report. Salesforce.com overtook SAP as the largest single CRM vendor in Gartner's survey, with Oracle, Microsoft, and IBM following those two companies. SAP remained the top CRM vendor in Europe, however, according to the report, which was announced Monday.
