The Teamsters Rail Conference is adding its voice to the dozens of elected officials, shippers and labor unions that strongly oppose an apparent attempt at a hostile takeover of Norfolk Southern by the Canadian Pacific Railway . The Rail Conference represents more than 70,000 active railroad workers whose constituent unions are the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen and the Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Employes Division .

Atmel receives hostile offer amid Dialog merger

Atmel Corp., which is in talks to merge with Dialog Semiconductor PLC, has received a hostile buyout offer, the company said Friday. Under the terms of the proposal, Atmel stockholders would get $9 a share or, instead of the cash, could opt for as much as $1 billion in the buyer's shares.
