Measuring 58 mm in diameter, OptoPulse EIL580 Series includes clamping flange encoders with 10 mm solid shafts, synchro flange encoders with 6 mm solid shafts, and 8–15 mm blind hollow shaft and through hollow shaft models. All feature finely graduated disc increments that provide 100–5,000 impulses/turn. Our familiar concept of temperature works pretty well for most solids, liquids, and gases -- it conforms to the general expectation that it should always be greater than absolute zero. What are we to make of a recent claim by a group of German researchers that they have created an experimental system where negative temperatures can be observed and measured?
