Explosive job growth in the oil and gas sector propped up the U.S. economy for several years in the wake of the recession, as the fracking revolution put American energy workers back to work. But 2015 was the year that job gains in the energy sector came to a screeching halt as rock-bottom oil prices triggered layoffs of more than 258,000 workers globally, according to a comprehensive analysis by industry consultant Graves & Co.

Nearly 150 Somali refugees say they hope to get their jobs back after they were fired from the Cargill Beef Plant in Fort Morgan after many of them left their posts following a dispute over workplace prayer. "The majority of them did not show up, or call, for three consecutive days," said Michael Martin, Director of Communications for Cargill, Inc. Several of the fired employees told Denver7 that Cargill won't allow them to pray when they need to.

Workers including Somalis trim beef in manufacturing at Cargill Meat Solutions in Fort Morgan. Cargill Meat Solutions said Thursday it tried to resolve a workplace prayer dispute with Somali workers at its Fort Morgan meatpacking and distribution plant that led to the firing of about 190 employees.

ArborGen workers awarded $53.5M in compensation suit

Ten current and former workers at Summerville-based biotechnology firm ArborGen Inc. won a $53.5 million judgment against their employer and some of the nation's top forest products companies after a judge ruled the companies tricked workers into accepting incentive plan changes that depleted most of their wealth. Judge Edgar Dickson also entered judgments against International Paper, MeadWestvaco - now WestRock - and New Zealand-based Rubicon Inc., as well as some of those forestry companies' board members, following a trial in Dorchester County that lasted nearly three weeks.
