SkyMall files for bankruptcy, lays off workers, auctioning off assets

Phoenix-based SkyMall - and is parent company Xhibit Corp. - have filed for bankruptcy protection after facing a liquidity crisis and seeing two major U.S. carriers say they were going to stop carrying the catalogs with quirky gifts. Delta Air Lines stopped carrying SkyMall's catalog last year and Dallas-based Southwest Airlines will stop the practice this year, according to bankruptcy documents and a declaration by Scott Wiley , CFO and Acting CEO of Xhibit.

Deere to lay off more than 1,000 workers in Iowa, Illinois

Deere is laying off about 910 workers indefinitely from factories mostly in Iowa and will sideline another 500 employees in Illinois until late summer, as the agricultural equipment maker adjusts to demand for its products. The Moline, Illinois, company also says it is adding 220 jobs at construction and forestry factories in Iowa.

Unless she tries a job herself, Angelini said, she wouldn't know the issues that someone might face in the plant, which, among other things, assembles screwdrivers for Snap-on Inc., a Kenosha-based tool company.

Occupational Safety and Health Administration has renewed an alliance with Laser Institute of America to help protect workers from exposure to beam and non-beam laser hazards in industrial, construction, medical, and research workplaces. During 5-year alliance, participants will provide annual training on the Best Practices Seminar on Laser Safety, develop a Webinar training program based on the seminar, and distribute laser safety guidance products at safety conferences and exhibits.
