The United Parcel Service announced a change in its policies to allow pregnant workers to stay on the job through their pregnancies in a brief filed late last week in a Supreme Court case brought by one of its former workers. "On a going-forward basis, UPS has voluntarily decided to provide additional accommodations for pregnancy-related physical limitations as a matter of corporate discretion," the company states.

About 130 Waste Management recycling employees are striking today against what they call "disrespectful treatment" by the company. Members of International Longshore and Warehouse Union Local 6 held picket lines that started at 4 a.m. at the company's headquarters at 172 98th Ave. in Oakland and a facility at 2615 Davis St. in San Leandro, union spokesman Craig Merrilees said.
