Hydraulic fracturing linked to increases in hospitalization rates in the Marcellus Shale
2015-07-15 23:02:00| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed
ScienceDaily: Hospitalizations for heart conditions, neurological illness, and other conditions were higher among people who live near unconventional gas and oil drilling (hydraulic fracturing), according to new research from the University of Pennsylvania and Columbia University published this week in PLOS ONE. Over the past ten years in the United States, hydraulic fracturing has experienced a meteoric increase. Due to substantial increases in well drilling, potential for air and water pollution posing a health...

Assessment addresses hydraulic fracturing and drinking water.
2015-06-08 14:31:08| Industrial Newsroom - All News for Today
Done at request of Congress, assessment shows that while hydraulic fracturing activities in the U.S. are carried out in a way that have not led to widespread, systemic impacts on drinking water resources, there are potential vulnerabilities in the water lifecycle that could impact drinking water. Some include: water withdrawals in areas with low water availability; inadequately cased or cemented wells resulting in below ground migration of gases and liquids; and spills of hydraulic fluids.
