Title AITC Technical Program Manager Classification ANU Senior Manager 2 Salary package 121,378 plus 17 superannuation with a possibility of a negotiable loading Type Continuing Contingent Funded, Full time The Advanced Instrumentation and Technology Centre AITC at the Research School of Astronomy and Astrophysics RSAA has highlevel engineering and scientific teams that develop innovative stateoftheart instrumentation for astronomy and space applications. The Centre is participating in the billiondollar international Giant Magellan Telescope project, as well as supporting development and upgrades of existing RSAA telescopes and building instruments for international partners. Based in Canberra Australia at the picturesque Mount Stromlo Observatory, the AITC is seeking an outstanding candidate who will work in partnership with the Director to set the strategic direction of the AITC and provide leadership to a team of professional staff and academic staff. This significant role will lead the AITCs engineering engagement with the international, billiondollar Giant Magellan Telescope project and foster the development of innovative technologies that support the Schools research programs in astronomy and space science. In this varied and challenging role, you will contribute to high level strategic planning, staff management and oversight of the daytoday operation of the AITC. In conjunction with the AITC Director, you will lead collaborations and partnerships in the commercial, government and academic sectors with national and international organisations while engaging with community, regional and professional networks. Your relevant science or engineering post graduate qualification and extensive experience in the management and delivery of large projects with technologies of interest to astronomical or space research will be essential. Your proven track record of leading large effective teams according to bestpractice project management protocols should be combined with extensive systems level technology and management experience across optical, mechanical, electronic and information technologies. Tasks The successfull candidate shall report to the Associate Director for LEO ProgrammesHead of the LEO Division and liaise with the LEO management team. Overall the Key person shall support the LEO management in the preparation of generic management and development plans and structures e.g. Work breakdown structure, Product tree, Documentation tree taking into account the existing information and implementing lessons learnt from the past EPS, Jason and Sentinel3 mission development.
