During the Manufacturing Safety Forum at AAMA 2016 Annual Conference, attendees heard from speaker Mike Burk of GED Integrated Solutions, an authority on glass safety in the workplace. Burk has been running the Insulating Glass Manufacturers Alliance (IGMA) Glass Safety Awareness Council since 2011. Burk’s advice to companies is to report near-misses in the workplace to prevent similar incidents; to eliminate use of short cuts, which can be unsafe; and to stress personal protective equipment.

During AAMA 2016 Annual Conference, Mollie Carmichael of John Burns Real Estate Consulting and Nick Lehnert of KTGY Architecture and Planning, shared information on trends and design solutions as they pertain to a range of generations and other demographic information. According to Carmichael, there is currently a high percentage (58%) of non-family shoppers, which is defined as single couples with no children. In terms of fenestration trends, solid core doors and wood windows are trending.

AAMA hosted speaker Matt Beaudreau from the Center for Generational Kinetics at its 2016 Annual Conference. For those at the conference, he drew a map for selling across generations and offered strategies that can help drive sales. He discussed the many differences among generations in terms of relationship to technology, relationships with each other, spending habits, and other categories. He also addressed the common belief that Millennials are often an entitled generation.

NTSB addresses lithium batteries as cargo on aircraft.

NTSB issued 2 safety recommendations to physically separate lithium batteries from other flammable hazardous materials stowed on cargo aircraft and to establish maximum loading density requirements that restrict quantities of lithium batteries and flammable hazardous materials. These safety recommendations, addressed to the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration, are derived from the investigation of the July 28, 2011, in-flight fire and crash of Asiana Airlines Flight 991.
