CSX Corp.'s first-quarter profit met analysts' estimates as cost cuts helped make up for a drop in coal and oil carloads at the largest railroad in the eastern U.S. Earnings fell to 37 cents a share from 45 cents a year earlier, CSX said in a statement Tuesday, in line with the average of 25 forecasts compiled by Bloomberg. Sales fell 14 percent to $2.62 billion.

Virgin's average fare fell 9 percent from a year earlier to $187, partly because of a fare war in Dallas with Southwest Airlines and American Airlines. CEO David Cush said in an interview Thursday that the average price passengers pay per mile could continue to fall through 2016 as airlines -- including his own -- keep adding to the supply of seats for sale.

Wipro Q3 profit meets expectations; up 2%

Wipro Ltd, India's third-largest software services exporter, has posted a 2 per cent rise in net profit at Rs 2,234 crore for the December quarter as compared with Rs 2,193 crore in the same period of last year. The company's revenue from IT services grew 9 per cent to Rs 12,310 crore in line with the guidance.
