Job description Design, implement, test, operate and evaluate software for near realtime precise orbit determination. The software will support current and future earth observation missions operated by our customer, an international space organisation located in Darmstadt, Germany. These current and future low orbiting earth missions belong to the MetOp and Jason families. They all generate payload data requiring precise knowledge of the spacecraft position for correct interpretation. Responsibilities The Flight Dynamics Consultant will support activities at the site to work on tasks such as Support operation of the near real time NRT Precise Orbit Determination POD software embedded inside the GRAS instrument operational product processing facility Support the design, implementation, testing and operational validation of new versions of the operational NRT POD software Maintenance and evolution of an offline POD environment Compare operational NRT POD performance with results from the offline POD environment to identify potential improvements in the operational software Monitor the performances of the GRAS support network, providing NRT solutions for the GPS constellation. Evaluate the impact on the operational solution and identify potential improvements to the operational software Support reprocessing activities for the inflight satellites as well as for partner radio occultation satellites Cosmic, Champ, Grace Generate precise reference orbit and estimated manoeuvres for the MetOp satellites, in support of flight dynamics and satellite performance evaluation. Ensure availability of POD support for the future satellites MetOpC and Jason3 Support design, implementation, test and validation of the operational NRT POD software for future mission Support the design, implementation, test and operational validation of NRT GPS solutions for future mission Prepare the offline POD environment to compute the most accurate POD solution for any new mission, shortly after launch Support systemsmission analysis on future missions related to POD topics, including development of required prototypes. This is a fulltime position with a planned starting date in January 2016. Qualifications Competencies Applicants shall have an university degree, in a relevant discipline or other suitable qualification together with 5 years experience in low earth orbit precise orbit determination. Essential skills are Knowledge of GNSS, POD and geodesy principles Experience with operational POD of LEO satellites Experience developing operational POD systems fluency in English spoken and written, as English is the working language Desirable skills are Operational GNSS orbit and clock estimation Familiarity with configuration control practices for operational software Skills in the area of software development and validation Experience with one or more of the following Fortran, C, TCL, Java, Python Familiarity with statistical and graphical analysis tools.
