HP enters supercomputing market with water-cooled Apollo system
2014-06-10 13:25:53| InfoWorld: Top News
Hewlett-Packard has entered the market for supercomputers with a new Apollo family of systems, including a high-end machine that has a novel water-based system to keep it cool. Lots of supercomputers have been assembled from HP hardware, but this is the first time the company has offered a listed product specifically for that market. It's hoping to drive the use of supercomputers beyond governments and academia and more deeply into the enterprise.

Here comes a supercomputing app store
2013-12-02 14:44:06| InfoWorld: Top News
The big problem facing supercomputing is that the firms that could benefit most from the technology, aren't using it. It is a dilemma. Supercomputer-based visualization and simulation tools could allow a company to create, test and prototype products in virtual environments. Couple this virtualization capability with a 3-D printer, and a company would revolutionize its manufacturing.

Intel unveils 72-core x86 Knights Landing CPU for exascale supercomputing
2013-11-26 21:01:34| Extremetech
Intel has taken the wraps off Knights Landing, its next-gen, up-to-72-core Xeon Phi supercomputing chip. The main change is that Knights Landing will be a standalone processor, rather than a slot-in coprocessor that must be paired with standard x86 CPU. Furthermore, Knights Landing will have up to 16GB of DRAM 3D stacked on-package, providing up to 500GB/sec of memory bandwidth. Knights Landing will debut in 2015 on Intel's 14nm process, and with a promise of 3 teraflops (double precision) per socket it will almost certainly be used to build some monster 100+ petaflop x86 supercomputers.
