Will 'golden' California turn brown?

2015-04-06 21:56:00| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed

BBC: California Governor Jerry Brown has instituted new water restrictions as the state's reservoirs have fallen to perilously low levels - but will the rules change how Californians see water? California is facing a catastrophic environmental disaster. America's erstwhile Golden State is in the midst of a severe drought which shows no sign of letting up. Even the threat of earthquakes seems to fade in comparison to the water crisis, now in its fourth year. Nasa scientists have projected that...

California senator wants to revoke Tesla rebate

2015-04-06 17:26:24| Auto Dealers - Topix.net

Should buyers of a $70,000 Tesla get a rebate? It's a question one California lawmaker is asking, but is it for the right reasons? California state Sen. Ted Gaines , R-Roseville, has proposed eliminating the $2,500 rebate on electric cars that cost more than $40,000. This would eliminate the rebate for Tesla buyers while preserving it for automakers like Toyota and Nissan, which make electric vehicles for less than the $40,000 price point.

Christian Science Monitor: If ever there was a California governor made for this moment, Jerry Brown might well be it. More than any other man, perhaps, Pat Brown fashioned California's sense of itself a land of unapologetic possibility, dappled with sun, dusted with dreams, and outlined only by the limits of the imagination. Be it the building...

New York Times: Even as the worst drought in decades ravages California, and its cities face mandatory cuts in water use, millions of pounds of thirsty crops like oranges, tomatoes and almonds continue to stream out of the state and onto the nations grocery shelves. But the way that California farmers have pulled off that feat is a case study in the unwise use of natural resources, many experts say. Farmers are drilling wells at a feverish pace and pumping billions of gallons of water from the ground, depleting...

Will Turning Seawater Drinking Water Help Drought-Hit California?

2015-04-06 00:28:00| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed

National Public Radio: ast week, Governor Jerry Brown made water conservation mandatory in the drought-stricken state of California. "As Californians, we have to pull together and save water in every way we can," he said. But if the four-year drought continues, conservation alone - at least what's required by the governor's plan - won't fix the problem. Across California, communities are examining all options to avoid running out of water. Some, like the coastal city of Santa Barbara, are looking to the past for inspiration....
