A ruling is expected from a Midland judge on whether to dismiss a lawsuit arising from the crash of a freight train and a veterans' parade float that killed four vets. State District Judge James Rush said Friday that attorneys for the Union Pacific Railroad had moved for summary judgment.

A Midland judge says he will rule next week on a motion from Union Pacific Railroad to end the civil trial involving people who were hurt or whose family members died when a freight train struck a veterans parade float. State District Judge James Rush said Friday that attorneys for the railroad filed the motion for summary judgment Thursday.

Judge lets North Dakota oil patch overtime lawsuit proceed

A lawsuit accusing oil-services company Schlumberger Ltd. of failing to pay overtime wages in North Dakota's oil patch can move forward, a federal judge says. Judge Ralph Erickson's ruling, released Monday, grants conditional class-action status to the suit filed by a former employee of Houston-based Schlumberger, which provides technology and other support services for the oil and gas industry.
