Ottawa County's effort to use crowd funding to pay for a bike lane on Lakeshore Drive has proven successful. The effort by the Ottawa County Planning Commission netted $23,325 since July 13. Construction bids came in lower than expected and with $120,000 previously contributed, the project will go foward.

The Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Company Inc. filed for bankruptcy protection Sunday, the second such filing for the Montvale, New Jersey-based supermarket chain, and many Pennsylvania businesses will be effected. The 156-year-old company filed documents for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection late Sunday night with the United States bankruptcy court for the Southern District of New York, NorthJersey.com reported.

A 19-year-old Croton man was struck and killed by a Metro-North train at the Croton-Harmon Train Station on Tuesday afternoon. The fatal incident occurred at 3:45 p.m., and police completed their investigation after 7 p.m., according to Aaron Donovan, a spokesman for the Metropolitan Transportation Authority.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency recently announced a settlement with Enid, Oklahoma-based Cottonwood Creek, Inc. in which the company has agreed to pay a $170,000 penalty to resolve alleged violations of the Clean Water Act related to oil pollution at the Bonanza Station in Big Horn County, Wyoming.
