The latest USDA Crop Progress Report shows corn harvest starting in several states. The overall corn crop is just over 25% mature, which is behind average. Crop conditions remain over 70% good/excellent, and well ahead of last year's conditions. The soybean crop has been dropping leaves on almost a quarter of the overall crop. Conditions held on to more than 70% good/excellent. read more

By Joe Vansickle Crop farmers scrambled to make headway in their quest to advance harvest this past week, passing the average for completion of the past five years (2008-2012), according to Crop Progress released today by the National Agricultural Statistics Service of the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). Corn harvest in the 18 top corn-producing states reached 73% completion as of Nov. 3, 2013, ahead of the previous five-year average of 71% and making notable gains over last week’s completion rate of 59%. read more

Oct. 28 Crop Progress: Corn harvest makes big progress; soybean harvest at average pace

Farmers made big progress in the last week harvesting the 2013 corn crop, closing in on the average pace. The crop also gained in the good/excellent condition ratings. Soybean farmers made good progress in the field, too, reaching the average harvest pace for this time of year. read more

Its been a few weeks since the last USDA Crop Progress report, but despite the lack of reports, corn and soybean harvest has progressed and farmers have been busy in the field. The overall corn crop is nearly 40% harvested and 60% of the corn is in good/excellent condition. Sixty-three percent of the soybean crop has been harvested, and 57% of the crop is in good/excellent condition. read more
