Firms pledge to cut modem power consumption by 20% in 2 yrs

(Telecompaper) ISPs, equipment suppliers and retail equipment manufacturers have joined the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) and the National Cable & Telecommunications Association (NCTA) to announce a new voluntary agreement to improve the energy efficiency of internet modems, routers and other equipment that deliver broadband to millions of consumers in the US. The agreement sets requirements to improve the energy efficiency of small network equipment (SNE) by 10 to 20 percent compared to typical, recently-deployed devices and cover more than 90 percent of US broadband households, roughly 80 million homes, by 2017. The voluntary SNE agreement's signatories to date include service providers AT&T, Bright House Networks, Cablevision, CenturyLink, Charter Communications, Comcast, Cox Communications, DirecTV, Time Warner Cable and Verizon, and manufacturers Actiontec, Arris, Cisco, D-Link, EchoStar Technologies, Netgear, Pace and Ubee Interactive.

New Google CFO could get USD 70 mln in 2 yrs

(Telecompaper) Google said in a regulatory filing that it could be paying newly appointed CFO Ruth Porat a base salary of USD 650,000 a one time bonus of USD 5 million after one year, plus a USD 25 million new hire grant and a USD 40 million biennial grant. The total comes to more than USD 70 million over the next two years. Porat will join Google on 26 May. Google paid outgoing CFO Patrick Pichette, who announced his retirement earlier this month, USD 62.2 million for the three years through 2013, Recode reported. Google said it wanted to stop annual cash bonuses for senior vice presidents next year and shift to a system that includes annual base salary and biennial equity grants.
