A subsidiary of Portland-based Erickson Inc. will fly oil and gas workers to an offshore rig at the Polvo Oil Field near Rio de Janeiro under a new contract with HRT Participacoes em Petroleo SA. The two-year deal is the first offshore oil and gas contract for Erickson subsidiary Ari Amazonia, one of three subdivisions.

US rig count tumbles by 61 to 1,750

Oilfield services company Baker Hughes Inc. says the number of rigs exploring for oil and natural gas in the U.S. plummeted by 61 this week to 1,750. The Houston firm said Friday in its weekly report 1,421 rigs were exploring for oil and 329 for gas.
