04.19: David Javerbaum & Giuliano Hazan

2013-03-15 00:36:46| Powells Books Events Calendar

The Jewish Federation of Portland presents the Food for Thought Festival featuring readings by two authors. At 12 p.m., David Javerbaum will present his hilarious book The Last Testament: A Memoir by God (Simon & Schuster). Over the course of his long and distinguished career, God has literally seen it all. And not just seen. In fact, the multitalented deity has played a pivotal role in many major events, including the Creation of the universe, the entirety of world history, and the successful transitioning of American Idol into the post-Simon Cowell era. Sometimes preachy, sometimes holier-than-thou, but always lively, The Last Testament is the ultimate celebrity autobiography. At 2 p.m., Giuliano Hazan will share his new cookbook, Hazan Family Favorites: Beloved Italian Recipes (Stewart, Tabori & Chang). As a child in America, Giuliano Hazan's mother, Marcella, packed him meatballs with potatoes and peas, veal stew with mushrooms, and other homemade dishes for lunch — dishes that in no way resembled the peanut butter sandwiches his classmates enjoyed. And so began his appreciation of great food. Hazan Family Favorites celebrates delicious recipes from the Hazan family, prepared just as Giuliano prepares them for his own family today. With recipes from Swiss chard tortelloni to strawberry gelato to everything in between, Hazan Family Favorites offers an intimate look at this iconic family and their most beloved recipes.
