The intense heat killed 120 persons annually on average in Arizona between 2001 and 2013, according to Will Humble , director of the Division of Health Policy and Program Evaluation at the University of Arizona. Humble, the former director of the Arizona Department of Health Services, said another 1,400 Arizonans visit emergency rooms annually because of heat-related ailments and another 12,700 are treated for dehydration.
