Blue and Green: US president Barack Obama has approved a project that will open up an area off the east coast of the US to oil and gas exploration with the use of sonic cannons -- which are highly damaging to marine wildlife. The decision to use sonic cannons was approved by The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM). Their deployment is quite common in drilling operations.
