Profit at five top foreign chipmakers has picked up amid rising demand from makers of tablet computers, PCs and smartphones. Global semiconductor sales rose nearly 10% in October from the same period last year to $29.7 billion, the Semiconductor Industry Association said Dec. 2. It was the 18th straight month of year-over-year increases.
