Rio de Janeiro 1992: For the first time, countries agree at an Earth Summit that climate change represents a "serious worldwide risk." The UNFCCC, the United Nation's climate organization, was created.
Berlin 1995: The first U.N. Conference of the Parties, or COP-1, summit is held.
